Outreach activities and public engagement
Outreach
I enjoy bringing geomorphology to the public — through talks, popular-science writing, and answering questions from non-specialists.
Public engagement
- I participate in Scientists’ Night, an annual scientific event for the public.
- Summer school of geography for high school students organized by our department.
- Public talk Sesuvy v evoluci krajin – měřítka a epizody in the Pátečníci lecture series (YouTube, in Czech).
Ask a Scientist
I participate in the Ask a Scientist project (in Czech), where the public can ask any scientific question and receive well-founded answers from scientists. The motto of the project is ‘There are no stupid questions’. I serve both as an answerer and as a reviewer of the answers.
Popular-science writing
I write about geomorphology — discoveries and curiosities from home and abroad — on Seznam Médium (in Czech):
- Umění číst v krajině
- Když je geomorfologie „badass”
- Povodně bez deště: Hrozba ledovcových jezer
- Kosmická časomíra
I also publish on Ekolist.cz (in Czech), e.g. on debris flows in the Beskydy and Jeseníky mountains in September 2024.
In the media
- Czech Television — Historie klimatické změny (Historie.cs discussion programme, March 2026, in Czech).
- Czech Radio — Když se řítí kamení: sesuvy u nás i ve světě (on our study of Earth’s largest landslides).
